The task of reimagining and redesigning the web presence of Montenegrin airports was a unique challenge. With so many stakeholders in mind (airport and airline personnel, travellers, companies looking for tender documentation, government bodies, people in piloting education, hobbyists, etc) the team in charge had started with an extensive persona research phase (based on the past website analytics data), resulting in a list of key types of website visitors, each with their own needs and limitations.
The website was created to allow all of these personas to achieve what they usually do as quickly and as intuitively as possible – from getting real-time data on airplanes bringing their loved ones home, to quickly opening the navigation app on their phone to start driving to the airport, browsing tender documentation or getting travel info (such as luggage limitations, lost and found or pet transport rules). A visual language of project-specific responsive UI elements was created to give consistency to these very different needs.
A custom server-side middleware was created to collect data from various FIDS flight information systems operating in Podgorica and Tivat airport, and intuitively present real-time flight data on the website, with a REST API to allow for further integration of other future web-based systems. Everything was created on top of WordPress, with multi-lingual capabilities built into the system from the get go. The website was translated to three languages – English, Italian and Albanian, in addition to Montenegrin.
